Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly • Omaha

Mission Statement:

Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly  (LBFE) is a national network of non-profit, volunteer-based organizations committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly. We offer to people of good will the opportunity to join the elderly in friendship and celebration of life.

Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly strongly believes that people need special pleasures in life in addition to the basic necessities. We feel that love and dignity and beauty in life are as basic as physical needs. Our motto – flowers before bread – is reflected in the activities at all of our locations, which include elegant holiday meals with champagne and flowers, vacations in the country, and individual birthdays celebrated by the delivery of a birthday cake and gift.

Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly came to Omaha in 1999 led by Terry and Noreen Shaughnessey, who were previously volunteers and donors for the LBFE Minneapolis/St Paul Chapter. On moving to Omaha, Terry and Noreen assembled a group of family members and other volunteers to conduct an annual Holiday Party on Christmas day for the next four years. In the fall of 2003 with support from the LBFE National Headquarters, the LBFE Omaha Chapter office was opened with paid staff and services to Omaha's isolated elderly were expanded to include a Friendly Visiting Program, an ever increasing schedule of social events and celebrations, and many direct services.

The Omaha Chapter of Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly is excited to announce our partnership with Physicians Mutual.  A sincere thank you to Physicians Mutual and it's employees for their support and generosity in assisting our mission of providing companionship and celebrations of life to Omaha's isolated elderly population.  We look forward to continuing this exciting partnership.
