The Friends of Little Brothers Program

What is the Friends Program?

"Little Brothers should cover the earth, lighting fires of love". With these words, Armand Marquiset challenged us to spread his message to forgotten elderly people wherever they may be.

The Friends of Little Brothers Program was created to help light these little fires of love. The program is an extension of Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly (LBFE) that is organized and run by volunteers. The Friends Program developed out of the growing interest of people all over the country who wanted to get involved with LBFE in areas where we do not have an affiliate, and out of our wish to expand our mission.

Typically, Friends Groups develop out of the interest of one individual or of a small group of people. With assistance from the LBFE National Headquarters, these volunteers work to organize a program for the isolated seniors in their community.

What Types of Activities Can Friends Groups Organize ?

Friends Groups are a part of the LBFE family, which means that they share the same goal of relieving isolation and loneliness among our Old Friends. They organize parties, visiting programs, and celebrations of life similar to those held by the affiliates, but usually on a smaller scale.

The groups are expected to develop one of two core LBFE programs: holiday activities or a visiting volunteer program. In addition to their core program, Friends Groups may choose to organize a variety of other social activities like picnics, baseball game outings, or shopping trips.

The most important thing about the Friends Program is that all activities are carried out in the spirit of our motto flowers before bread. This means that each activity must be done with love and every elderly individual who is served must be treated as a dear friend.
